OU Health Dean McGee Eye Institute

I once lauded Dean McGee Eye Institute for its courtesy and expertise, but my experience today completely changed that perception. The staff do not care at all about your time and will make you wait 2+ hours to see a doctor for a low-quality appointment. For context, my family and I reached the center at 12:30 PM (with appointment at 2 PM) and left it at 4:30 PM. Considering we drive 150 miles here for an annual check-up, that is absolutely ridiculous. No other medical facility requires patients to invest 4 hours of waiting for a 30 second appointment. ...

The doctors are great however, wait times need to be improved. Almost every patient in the waiting room had been waiting for 2+ hours to complete an appointment. When you first arrive you're called in rather quick to get dilated and photos taken and then you will have to wait at least two hours to see the doctor. Definitely not efficient at all and very hard for kids to sit through if you have any. Again, I love my doctors but I can't afford to use all of my PTO every month on waiting in this office.

Went to dr. Patel for IIH. I was told I had to to manage my meds. The most dismissive BS appointment I’ve had yet and I’ve seen neurosurgeons. I had fulminant IIH but wasn’t diagnosed that way. Spent 3 weeks in the hospital while I progressively lost my vision (they every day they charted “vision improving”), they almost crashed my kidneys while trying high dose diamox saying that should be fine, to get me out of there I FINALLY got a shunt when I refused to have weekly LP’s instead. Went amazing. Eventually got a higher shunt setting which I needed. ...

Dean Mcgee has great doctors. I would like to see them recognize some of the staff that works for them. I dealt with an employee named Cheryl working for Scott Samples been there for 22 years very good at her job and should be recognized.

Had an appointment for11:00 for my husband. We arrived at 10:30 and were checked in by Robert. We waited 2 hours I went to check was told Dr Riaz had an unexpected surgery and he was running behind. Waited another hour went back and checked again and the girl then checked my husband’s name and was told he had never been checked in. Told them we were leaving and would reschedule or find someone else. Went to the original desk where we originally checked in. Robert said he did check him in. This was my 1st visit as a patient to Dean McGee & I went to the Edmond location. When I called to schedule, the first available appointment was about 6 weeks out. But given, I’ve had appointments with other specialists in the OU system scheduling new patients 3+ months out, I thought 6 weeks was great! 😬 I was assigned to Dr. Patel & liked him instantly!
