What is PRK?

PRK is a laser eye surgery that reshapes the cornea without cutting a flap. The name stands for photorefractive keratectomy.

The surgeon removes the thin outer layer of corneal cells, reshapes the surface underneath with an excimer laser, and the outer layer grows back over the following days. PRK uses the same type of laser as LASIK, so most LASIK practices also perform it.
