UPMC Vision Institute

I was recently referred to the Vision Institute for a partially detached retina. Due to the seriousness, I was instructed to go to the office and they would fit me in. Everyone I met was incredibly kind and understanding. The detachment was quickly confirmed and surgery was scheduled the next day- on a Saturday. Dr. Durrani and his team were excellent. I had emergency retina re attachment surgery on june5th by Dr Prensky and his team . Probably saved my vision in my right eye . They did a phenomenal job in anesthesia and the operating room , and a decent recovery . Obviously they have unlimited resources and equipment, that helps . The lack of 5 stars is not a clinical opinion . I would’ve given them the fifth star except that IN MY OPINION , upmc is very corporatey. I’m so grateful to have Dr Smith as my Low Vision Specialist. The new building is wonderful and great for visually impaired people to navigate. I never have to wait long in the waiting area. The staff is excellent and Dr Smith is the best low vision optometrist ever!!!!

My mom just had her macular injection today. Unfortunately her doctor was out sick and the chaos was evident. I am not letting us sit in a room and wait long periods waiting for her injection. I have repeatedly explained her arthritis flares up and causes her great discomfort, and with her diabetes, the combo makes a big problem. I have asked them numerous times to please be mindful. Talk about a state of the art facility they got this French doctor and and they built the place for him it's unbelievable in there everything is futuristic even the elevators the people are all nice at work there it's just a good atmosphere to be in they have a cafeteria you can put as much bacon on your plate as you want sausage and eggs it was delicious I took some pictures of the outside it's just beautiful there and I have to give props to Dr herzig for my son Angelo she's been with him since he was 4 years old he is 17 now and she's a wonderful eye ...

I just recently had an appointment here and I’m not sure what the bad reviews are about. I got in right away. My appointment was at 2:45pm I was seen at 2:49. Everyone was very courteous, friendly, super sweet, super nice, and probably one of the BEST customer service experiences that I’ve had in quite some time. I thought everybody in the office was extremely kind. My boyfriend even mentioned that they got up and asked to he needed anything while he waited, which is super sweet, most places do not do that.
