I arrived at the IH-35 location 15 minutes early for my routine eye exam appointment but wasn’t called in until a half hour after my appointment time. This was my first time doing an eye exam like this and was not made aware I wouldn’t be able to drive after being given dilation and I wasn’t provided with sunglasses until I left later on. Then I waited another 45 minutes to see a doctor at which point my name was called and the clinic had written the wrong date of birth for me, had to correct it, and then sent me back to the waiting room another 15 ...
I very much appreciated Howerton Eye Clinic and especially my ophthalmologist, Dr. Kristen Hawthorne, and her staff as they helped me to meet the requirements of Texas DPS in order to renew my driver’s license, which included Dr. Hawthorne prescribing driving glasses for me. Dr Howerton is awesome! She takes her time and listens to all your concerns. Front desk could be more friendlier! We had me livid. I was worried I would have to reschedule an appointment for my Special needs, brother. This office needs to inform you on all the paperwork you need to bring with you. That’s all I have to say be professional! Thank you
My experience with Dr. Hawthorne and her staff for several years has been incomparable to previous ophthalmology offices and physicians. She is literally the best in regard to knowledge, treatment appropriateness, and patient rapport. She does not try to “up-sell” procedures in order to pay for elaborate office decor and location as do so many others in my lengthy past history.
The office was clean the front desk not very friendly. I had to wait over 30 minutes past my appointment time. Then I spent some time with the technician followed by another 10 minutes in another waiting room followed by another 20 minutes waiting on the doctor. All in all I spent 3hours on this visit. I was taken care of by another doctor not the doctor that is assigned to my case.
Dr. Hawthorne is an amazing ophthalmologist - she took the time to explain keratoconus to my 15 year old and even illustrated the condition on a piece of paper for him. We are so grateful to have his eyesight under her care!
